Dr Bredesen’s Cognitive Decline Workshop

The Bredesen Protocolâ„¢ |

The CogMission team attend Dr Bredesen’s Cognitive Decline Workshop.

On Saturday 6th April 2019, The CogMission team attended Dr. Bredesen’s workshop on Cognitive Decline, in London.

We were also very privileged to get a private 90 minute session with Dr. Bredesen after the event.

The team have come away with renewed excitement and hope for helping our patients with cognitive decline. In addition to the recent 100 cases that were published, in which every one of those patients had measurable changes in their cognitive tests and laboratory markers, many more cases were being presented and so the protocol is gaining momentum.

One of the things that really stood out for us was that an adapted version of the protocol had been extended to include other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, ALS and macular degeneration. The early studies show that we can be cautiously optimistic about applying the same principles to these conditions.

We’re keeping our finger on the pulse as more information comes in about this project.

We were delighted that Dr. Neeraj Puri, an integrated dentist, accompanied us to London. A big part of the protocol is the question about the role that certain oral microbes play in the development of Alzheimer’s.

Some of you may have noticed a great deal of media attention earlier in the year in which oral microbes were found to be present in the brains of sufferers of Alzheimer’s. The question of cause and effect remains but we believe that managing gum disease plays a very important role in preventing decline for our patients. Of course, there is also the question of raised mercury levels being a major contributing factor and dental amalgam can be a source of toxicity for some individuals. So, in some cases the need for specialist removal of amalgam by an integrated dentist who will use the correct precautions, can be a necessity.

As always, we came away with a great deal of new information and different strategies and ideas and we had many “aha” moments thinking about some of our cases that we are working with currently.

Later this month, we head off to sunny Arizona to learn from international experts on how to treat our patients with environmental toxins. So, watch this space!
